Original operation

A fictional adult underwent an operation earlier in August. The selected operation is stipulated to have a ninety-day Medicare global period. The same surgeon remains responsible for postoperative care.

New presentation

During that period, the patient develops a documented postoperative problem at the operative site. The surgeon expressly relates the problem to the original operation.

Return procedure

The surgeon takes the patient back to the operating room for an unplanned procedure to address that related problem. The report identifies the room, procedure, findings and relationship to the earlier operation.
