About this course and your privacy

An independent place to learn

This is a free, self-paced study guide for people preparing for the CPC examination, including learners starting without a healthcare background. It is maintained as a personal educational project by Robert DeVore.

The course is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by AAPC. It does not reproduce the CPC examination. CPC is an AAPC credential. The practice questions and patient records here are original fictional learning material.

CPT is maintained and copyrighted by the American Medical Association. Use your own current, authorized CPT Professional, ICD-10-CM and HCPCS Level II references. The course teaches reasoning and book navigation; it does not distribute a CPT database or replace the complete code-set instructions.

What a course result means

A checkpoint score describes your answers to that checkpoint. The readiness guidance uses the requirements shown on your progress page. Neither is an official examination result, professional credential, clinical qualification or guarantee of passing.

This project grants no CEUs, approved contact hours or CPC-A experience credit. A local course-completion record, where available, records this course only. All clinical examples are for coding education, not diagnosis or treatment advice.

What stays in your browser

You do not need an account. The learning tools use this browser’s local storage for lessons read, passed checkpoints, question results, saved practice attempts, mock results, recent lesson location, book-lookup receipts and flashcard review schedules.

These records are not sent to a course account or learning database. They belong to this browser profile on this device. Another device, another browser, private browsing or cleared site data may show a different record. If storage is blocked, the tools explain when they cannot save a result.

Anyone with access to your browser profile may be able to see its stored progress. Use the export and reset controls on My progress to manage that record. Review an imported backup before replacing the current record. A backup contains your learning history; keep it somewhere you trust.

Written exercises

Chart worksheets, book-lookup explanations and Explain the Rule answers stay on the current page. They are not included in progress backups and disappear when you leave or reload. Book lookups save only the exercise identifier, elapsed time, date and your self-review choice.

Do not enter real patient information. Every supplied chart is fictional, and the exercises need only those supplied facts. The site has no reason to receive a patient’s name, medical record number or private clinical record.

Page requests and external links

The site serves its own scripts, styles, fonts and icons. Its learning tools do not use third-party advertising or analytics scripts. Ordinary requests are still necessary to deliver a website; local-only learning storage does not mean that no network request occurs.

Source links open external websites. Those sites have their own privacy practices and may use cookies or other services. This course does not embed their account systems into the learning tools.

Sources and corrections

Check Sources and edition for the references and service-date window used here. Code-set effective dates, payer policies and examination rules can change on different schedules. A source’s publication date is not automatically its effective date.

When reviewing a questionable explanation, keep the lesson or question identifier, the service date and the relevant source section together. That makes a correction specific enough to verify. Do not include real patient information in a report about course content.
